Women’s Month
Ode to Girl Power

As the fashion, music, and themes make a comeback, what better way to celebrate women’s month than with the nostalgia of our youth and seven wines that feature some of the newest women winemakers. From En Vogue to Shania, this box shows the range and influence of women’s voices of the 1990s and early 2000s. Whether belting into a hairbrush or dancing with your friends, this playlist is guaranteed to get you out of your seat.

**You do not have to drink these wines in any specific order. We have ordered the wines based on the vibe, so choose the wine that fits your musical mood at the moment. Party Line is a bi-monthly box created with the intention of having you sit with the wine and music while enjoying your own company or that of others. This is all about presence, so sit (or dance) and sip a while.

Wine: Martha Stoumen Post Filtration White 2021

Winemaker: Martha Stoumen is a natural winemaker who centers “a winemaking culture of patience.” The goal of her wines is to bring joy to the drinker while highlighting the terroir of Northern California.

About the wine:

This is a punchy and bright wine that’s easy to sip on its own or paired with some conserva (that’s fancy for preserved foods). The lemon oil and hints of saline balance with just a touch of Iris on the nose. We’ve paired this wine with the musical category friendship the color, the ease of drinking, and the layered flavors speak to everything we want in our friend group. Here’s to the girl bands and friendship anthems.

Wine: Lavender Wine  Half-bottle**

Winemaker: Aaliyah Nitoto is what you call an innovator. Flower wine is an ancestral wine-making technique. It has been centuries since it was popular, let alone sold commercially. Nitoto has done what few have been able to do in the wine world by revitalizing and reintroducing a historic practice. We hope this intro makes you a long-time supporter of her work.

**You may be asking why a half-bottle? The sparkling wine in her collection is only sold in half-bottles currently. This wine not only matched the box theme but was particularly special as quality sparkling wine is not easy to make. This box focuses on fun, but we also see it as our duty to introduce you to wines that you may never get the opportunity to see in your local wine shop.

About the wine:

Every nite out and sleepover needs the songs you get ready to; I don’t make the rules. Lavender sparkling wine and glitter that’s the pairing. No, but seriously this has to be one of the most surprising wine profiles I have had in a long-time, and I hope you feel the same. While you expect the lavender to be overwhelming, it is anything but; it provides this fresh herbaceousness with a touch of spice. The bubbles are comparable to a prosecco, amusing, not distracting. So here’s to playing dress-up and looking fine with your living room as the perfect destination.

Wine: Inconnu Chenin Blanc 2018

Winemaker: Laura Brennan Bissell is an artist by trade, from performance poetry to experimental music; she has done it. Like many of her peers' winemaking came to her haphazardly through a friend and quickly became a passion. The philosophy behind all Inconnu’s wines is to make them a  poetic representation of the land they represent and at an accessible price point.

About The Wine:

No Girl’s Nite In is not complete without discussing your current crush, lover, or the imaginary person in your head. Reminiscing on past desires and discussing future plans is one of the ways we build community with our friends. Inconnu has truly delivered with this wine and vintage; it is what we like to call a porch pounder because before you know it, it’s gone. The versatility makes it stand out; notes of kumquat and grapefruit pith pair seamlessly with notes of pear. This wine is a conveyor for a collective fever dream. So drink up, crush up, and imagine yourself in love if you currently aren’t.

Wine: Umsasane Cabernet Blend

Winemaker: Ntsiki Biyela is the Owner/winemaker behind Aslina wines and it is truly a remarkable model for what diverse ownership can do for the market. She is the first Black woman to become a winemaker in South Africa and that is quite a feat as less than 2% of the land viable for vineyards is owned by Black vintners/farmers. She makes wine as an ode to her Grandmother who the label is named after.

About The Wine:

Drinking with friends is great, but sometimes what we really need is a face mask and peace. Umsasane is a wine that demands your presence something that should be essential in our rituals for taking care of ourselves and others. It immediately asks that you slow down. The ripe red fruit of cooked berries and plum match well with hints of oak. I recommend some food and a candle with this wine it only adds to the experience of being in one's body. Biyela named this wine after her grandmother’s nickname it is the ‘Zulu word for umbrella tree, which gives shelter, protection, and comfort.’ This wine embodies the idea of comfort with how plush it is. Enjoy and Take Care.

Category: Breakup Songs
(Breakups suck but these songs
all make us feel pretty good about it!)

Wine: Zazen Zinfandel

Winemaker: Chenoa Ashton-Lewis is a 3rd generation winemaker from Oakland. Lewis and her partner Will discovered 160yr old vines on her family's vineyard and painstakingly worked to stake them. They now make wines with a simple mantra Unfined. Unfiltered. Wild Yeast fermentations. Zero S02.

About The Wine:

Zinfandel is one of those varietals that quickly lets us know if the winemaker knows what they are doing. Good zinfandel doesn’t need a ton of manipulation in fermentation just upkeep in the vineyards. Zazen proves this theory and presents some interesting twists and turns Zinfandel generally always has super low acidity, but in Zazen, you see it peek through with this stable tartness mixed with mulberries. This wine has some drama to it and we love it, just like we love these songs about the toxic nature of breakups.

Category: Easy Does It!

Wine: Easy Wine

Winemaker: Easy Wine is overseen by Shaksbury a well-known cider company. And while the company is owned by two men, this project is spearheaded by women wine/cider makers. Katheryn Arts leads this project which is meant to do exactly what its name states be easy. It’s a low-abv option for those looking to indulge and canned to make serving a nonissue just pop and sip. If you happen to be in a city that allows public drinking, I think you just found your summer goto.

About The Wine:

With Easy Wine, we’ve given you a Two for One deal, a rosé, and one red.  The rosé is simple and damn refreshing think of a ready-made spritz. The red is a great compliment to a lazy evening or take-out. It has the tannin structure to stick up to something more hearty but is light enough to sip with a charcuterie board. Pick your own adventure with these two.
